about me

I am a Dutch-born artist living and working in Mieders, in the Stubai Valley, Tirol. My work is rooted in realism and focuses on the alpine landscape that has become both my home and my principal subject.

I paint in oil and draw in pen, ink, and pencil, working both in the studio and directly in the landscape. I often return to the same places—mountain ridges, glaciers, alpine meadows, forests, valleys, and the old farm buildings scattered throughout the region. Rather than looking for spectacular views alone, I am interested in the quieter character of a place: changing weather, shifting light, fog, snow, seasons, and the small details that are easily overlooked.

For me, realism is not simply about reproducing what I see. It is a way of getting to know a landscape through sustained observation. Painting outdoors makes that process immediate. Cold, wind, changing light, and even the passing of time become part of the experience of making the work. Returning to a familiar location allows me to see it differently each time.

Having grown up in the Netherlands, where mountains were absent from my everyday surroundings, my relationship with the Alps is also a personal one. Since moving to Tirol in 2015, I have gradually developed a deeper connection with the landscape around me. What initially felt unfamiliar has become something I continually observe, explore, and try to understand.

Some of my work is concerned with the landscape itself, while other projects focus on traces of human life within it—such as the traditional Stadl and hay sheds of the Stubai Valley. These structures, like the glaciers and snowfields, are part of a landscape that is changing. Drawing and painting them is, in part, a way of paying attention to what is here now.

Alongside my independent work, I create commissioned paintings, drawings, and larger-scale artworks for private collectors, hotels, banks, and other spaces. These projects allow me to bring the same approach to a specific place or architectural environment, creating work that is closely connected to its surroundings.

Ultimately, my paintings and drawings are records of time spent looking. They are an ongoing attempt to understand and preserve something of the places I live in, return to, and care about.
