Every summer, I take my sketchbook and paints with me on our family holiday. This year, I brought my plein air oil painting setup and spent some time painting around Grundlsee and Hallstatt in the Salzkammergut. Working on small 24 × 15 cm canvases, I painted the places we visited as well as the changing weather and light — from quiet, overcast days at the lake to the views from the Tressensteinwarte and the morning light over Hallstatt.

These small paintings have become something of a visual record of our family holidays. Rather than simply taking photographs, I like to slow down and spend time looking at a place, choosing a particular view and trying to capture what made that moment memorable. Together, they form a small series of paintings from our August holiday.
